Unsung Heroes

I was scrolling through my phone, checking all the messages I had received during the day. After telling one of my friends that I didn’t have any ideas for the writing competition yet, and would she please stop bothering me with that, I saw the message from my best friend, asking what I was reading now. Oh, I had to show her! I opened the app, grabbed the book and-

I suddenly fell off the bed in shock. For there, standing right before me, was a man. Right there. In my room. I could only stare in shock, frozen to the ground. Then, everything, my bed, table, my entire room faded away. And then, I was transported into a room. A very dark room, I could hardly see anything! The man’s clothes had changed a lot too- worn and tired, just like his face was. And then everything started to go by very fast… a beam of light… an excited face… and then… nothing.

I opened my eyes. Was it all a dream? No! But then, I saw a paper on the ground where the man had been standing was from an ancient book. Brushing my dark black hair away from my face, I started to read. It was all about this man, who was a scientist called ‘Al Hassan Ibn Al Haytham’ and had made many, many great discoveries all those years ago. And the dark room was called ‘camera obscura’, and oh, he even explained how we see! But then, a forbidding thought entered my mind. Not why I all this was happening, as I was no stranger to mysterious happenings, but why I had never known about this before. Why was I never taught about this scientist? And how many more could be out there, hiding in pages of old books or never-visited corners of the internet?
